whatsthebigmistry presents Me-The Machine-The Changing Shapes
FRIDAY 25TH FEB 7.30PM
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Me, The Machine, The Changing Shapes. What you will see tonight is a journey that I have been on, between me and my machine, snap shots of our time together in the same space. We talk about many things. Most of our talking is moving and movements are taking on shapes. We changed outfits, changed parts, mend, repair, pre-pair… falls have been taken. Transformation were etched under the machine and transfigured in movement.
Tonight’s performance all started with that connection that is made between the brain and hand, like that connection which moves from the brain down the arm to a hand holding a pencil, a pencil meeting the paper, instead marked by a needle marking an impression with stitches…and that same impulse between the brain and the limbs of the body- extending and reaching further taking on new formations.
This work is devised following a research and exploration project late in Autumn ’10 with Dance 4 entitled The Drawing Machine Experiment. Inhabiting unknown territories working with the techniques of both the sewing machine and movement together.
